Two-story stone house with sea views in Turkey

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 11:04 AM PDT

Somewhere in Turkey, more exactly on a hill on the Bodrum Peninsula, sits a very beautiful property. It features an amazing stone house that would be enough to impress anyone who sees it. But on top of that it also benefits from a wonderful location that provides expansive views of the surrounding hills and the sea. You can see some of the Greek island on a clear day.

The property also has a series of terraces overlooking the sea and a beautiful back garden with a pool. It incorporates a charming 5,000 square foot house that its owner built in 2010. He used stone from demolished old houses from the nearby villages and from the property itself and used it to create this amazing residence that, even though is contemporary, has a timeless, classical look. The interior of the house is beautiful as well.

All the interior walls are covered with wither plaster or stone and most of the ceilings have exposed oak beams. The floors are cedar and, considering all the materials that were used for the project as well the interior décor, the atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. An odd detail is the fact that the entrance is on the upper level. The living room can be accessed through an arched stone doorway and has a beautiful fireplace. It's connected to a stone terrace through sliding glass doors. The terrace can also be sued as an outdoor dining area. The rest of the house is just as amazing and beautiful. The property is now on the market at the price of 2.6 million.

Simple Ladder Laundry Rack

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 09:50 AM PDT

If you are living in an apartment you will be automatically a fan of crazy solutions that save space and makes more use of the existing space. Now, of course there are all kinds of people, but those who love to get things done by their own hand will love this little project I’m going to show you. It is meant to enhance the existing space in a tiny apartment by looking at things a little bit different, and in a moment you will see exactly what I am talking about.

Doing laundry is a part of our life and being young and living in a tight apartment makes the drying part a bit of a challenge. Luckily a practical girl thought of maximizing the space for the laundries and she came up with a ladder hung by the ceiling with several hooks attached to hand all the clothes. In essence the thing is pretty basic to construct but you decide to adopt this project you first need to get your hands on some items like an old wooden ladder, paint it as you like and secure it from the ceiling.

Then you can proceed to putting hooks and testing the resistance; the last thing you want is to find all your fresh washed clothes on the floor, so check it before using it to see roughly how many kilos the new laundry drier can hold.

I think this is a cool idea and very simple to build in your own home and I recommend it especially because it almost doesn’t cost a thing.{found on littlelucylu}.

The minimalist Vika Veine table top from IKEA

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 09:18 AM PDT

As usually, IKEA is a great source to go to when you need a simple and yet functional piece of furniture. Known for their vast selection of minimalist designs and ingenious storage solutions, IKEA still manages to impress us once more with this wonderful creation. The Vika Veine table top is a very simple product, with a minimalist design, a compact look and not even a single detail on its surface. The smooth, clean and clear surface however reveals a hint that lets us know that it actually offers more than it lets us see.

The Vika Veine table top is indeed hiding something. It was designed to be used with the top lifted at 90+degrees. This means that the surface you see at first is not the surface you'll be working on. The lid can be lifted and it reveals a hidden compartment. The work surface is just as simple as the surface of the table top and it's actually the other side of the lid that hides a secret. Its interior is lined in felt and it was designed to absorb sound, a feature that can be very useful.

The table top is made of particleboard, ABS plastic and foil and the side panel is moisture-resistant MDF. Its dimensions are 39'' width, 23 5/8'' depth and 4 3/8'' height. It features a series of cable outlets and compartment in the back that keep the cords and cables out of sight, neatly organized and yet close at hand. The spring hinges allow the lid to be closed gently and silently and pockets from the interior of the lid feature paper holders that allow you to keep your workspace clean and organized. The table top features pre-drilled holes for the legs.Available for 99$.

A small, neutral apartment of 50 square meters

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 08:44 AM PDT

Like we have demonstrated on many occasions, a small apartment doesn't necessarily have to feel cluttered and cramped. There are many examples that support this affirmation. This apartment is one of them. This is an apartment that covers a surface of 50 square meters which most people would catalogue as small. However, it looks surprisingly airy and spacious.

There are many reasons for that. Let's start with the obvious ones. The apartment has white walls and ceilings in each and every room, including the bathroom. This is a well-known trick that is often used in order to create the impression of a larger space. Then there's also the fact that the windows are large and that the décor takes advantage of their positioning. The windows let in lots of natural light and thus the interior becomes bright and airy.

Of course, the most important role is played by the furniture. Everything is simple and there are no unnecessary pieces of furniture but, most important of all, they provide plenty of storage space. This is how the apartment stays clean and organized. But there's also another reason why this place is so beautiful. It all comes down to the decorations. In here we have an interesting color palette that includes mostly neutral tones and that can be found in all the components of the décor, including the framed pictures, the decorative cushions and the rugs.{found on Stadshem}.

A complete bathroom makeover for only $500

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 07:41 AM PDT

Renovating the bathroom can be a very complicated project, not to mention costly. If you plan on replacing the bathtub, the sink and other fixtures then you might want to think twice before even attempting the change. However, there are many things that you can achieve without spending much money. There are plenty of ingenious DIY projects that can be helpful in such situations and they can really reduce the budget required for the renovation. In fact, this particular bathroom has been completely renovated for only $500.

In this case, the owners, Stephen and Meredith Heard, decided to do all the work themselves. This reduced the cost visibly. But this wasn't the only economical measure they have taken. They also found ways of saving money by being creative and by attempting DIY projects. This way, the budget they initially set at $1000 was cut in half and the renovation cost them only $500. Their bathroom that was once plain and old-looking is now colorful and chic.

Among the many changes that occurred, the most visible ones are related to the walls, furniture and shower curtain. The walls were repainted. Not only that, but this time the owners also covered the lower portion with white panels that allowed them to incorporate a thin display area and to add a series of practical storage items for the towels. The cabinet is actually the same one. It just had new hardware, a new top and a fresh coat of paint. The washbasin has been replaced with a more stylish one got a new curtain with bold white and yellow stripes.{found on welcometoheardmont}.

Stunning Glass Houses with Breathtaking Views

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 06:52 AM PDT

Today we would like to present you two stunning houses designed by Carlo Santambrogio and Ennio Arosic of Santambrogio. One of them is located in a secluded winter woodland and the other one appears to be on a cliff side, overlooking breathtaking scenery.

These amazing houses are entirely made out of glass and were built in two juxtaposing locations in order to create an unique relation of the interior to the exterior environments. Almost every item in the houses are made out of glass, including the bed frame, shelving and staircase. The residences feature specially heated glass which can adapt to any setting and weather. What’s more, the architects eliminated the visual boundaries, allowing your eye to wonder and admire the beautiful surroundings.

The woodland house rests on land with the scent of sun and rain and you can look onto the tops of the branches of ancient trees. On the other hand, the house on the sea lives the landscape, it reflects and integrates into its transparencies. Furthermore the design of both homes is simple, subtle, with clean lines and a minimalist approach. Also, the hint of blue in the glass creates mystery.

If you treasure privacy, this may not be the place for you, but what a view…

Famous architect Frank Gehry has been commissioned to design a new campus headquarters for Facebook. The project was initiated by co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and will complete the company's current headquarters. The campus will be called Facebook West and will be located across the highway from Facebook East, their current headquarters.

Facebook West will be a 420,000 square foot facility and it will be organized into a sort of neighborhoods. Chocolate Brown Bedrooms: Inspiration & Ideas

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 02:15 AM PDT

Fall is coming and so are the cozy nights full of hot cups of apple cider and reading books by the fire. What color inspire me to embrace the fall weather and awaken the love for the upcoming holidays? That color is warm, welcoming chocolate brown. It mixes well with almost any other shade on the spectrum and still creates a relaxing, inspiring place to rest. Let’s take a look at some quick tips to decorate your bedroom using chocolate brown!

1. Lighter hues.

Lighter brown hues play well with natural linens. Use a softer brown on the walls and dress your room with clean, creamy whites and beiges. It’s classy, sophisticate but still warm and inviting. And add just a quick dose of chocolate brown with your blinds, curtains and pillow to add pops of style.

2. Rustic charm.

Play off brown accessories with light walls. Use all soft shades of brown to create a rustic atmosphere is not only comforting but totally trendy. Then, take your darker brown colors to accessorize the room!

3. Chandelier light.

To add a certain sophisticated to a posh brown bedroom hang a beautiful chandelier. Browns complement golds and golds complement light. Use sparkling crystals in a bedroom of brown and there’s instant glowing style. Plus, using more light in a darker bedroom will enhance its depth.

4. Cool blues.

Brown and blue are cool. And together they create a cool, calm atmosphere and create a soft, stylish look to any room. But in a bedroom, it’s a beyond perfect match. Relax, read and enjoy your down-time in a room full of this cozy style. That’s any blue hue I might add. Navy, royal, pale or baby blue … they all work well with chocolatey brown tones.

5. Woods and stuff.

Your hint of chocolate brown doesn’t have to be in decor, but in actual design. Wood accents in your bedroom will enhance any other color your decide to use and add a more textural feel.

6. Green is good.

If you want an earthy, natural vibe then pair your chocolate brown inspiration with any shade of green. It’ll be an organic touch, and a very serene feel. Make your base brown and sprinkle greens throughout the space.

Colorful Jara Settee

Posted: 29 Aug 2012 12:00 AM PDT

Today we're going to approach a particular piece of furniture that we didn't really pay much attention to until now but that has some very interesting characteristics that deserve to be analyzed. It's a settee, a piece of furniture that would best complement the living room but that can also be included in other spaces. This model was created by Massoud Furniture, a company founded in 1962 by three friends. It specializes in creating custom seating.

This is one of their many beautiful creations, the Jara settee. It features a charming design with simple lines. It's a handcrafted piece and this makes it even more interesting and unique. Also, the array of patchwork prints is a detail that makes it stand out. Given the variety of colors and patterns it features and the simplicity of the design, this settee is quite versatile and it could be easily included in most traditional and vintage interior decors. It would add a vibrant pop of color to any room.

The patchwork effect that you see was created by stitching together several layers of recycled sari cloth. Because of that, each settee is a one-of-a-kind piece and each features slight variations from the one shown in the pictures. The settee was crafted with a hardwood frame and features cotton and silk patchwork upholstery. Its overall dimensions are 60″W x 34″D x 44″T. Seat, 18″T; arms, 25″T.
